From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The home side overwhelmed Footscray from the start, scoring 7.3 to 0.2 in the first quarter.

The AFL leader had another dominating key forward in Stevan Jackson, who was too strong and mobile for Peter Foster, and kicked three goals himself. Foster embodied Footscray's frustration when he shoved Jackson roughly to the ground after he himself had taken a mark in the last quarter. A free, and a 50-metre penalty, was awarded to Jackson, who missed his shot.

Similarly, in the third quarter, Glen Coleman had a mark taken from him when he retaliated to a crude spoil by Chris Lewis. His anger might have been understandable, but when he crashed into Dean Kemp's back a few minutes later, all he succeeded in doing was stunning himself with a heavy blow to the head."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"Sumich, who returned to action after a week on the sidelines with a hamstring injury, booted seven goals in the third term as the Eagles shattered the morale of the Bulldogs and firmly entrenched themselves at the top of the AFL table.

In fact, West Coast produced 11 goals in the third quarter to stretch an already large gap between the teams and the scores finished 25.15 (165) to 7.5 (47).

With the aid of a plethora of running players upfield, including Dean Kemp, Chris Lewis and Chris Mainwaring, Sumich became the first Eagle to pass the magical ten-goal mark.

West Coast's defence was equally effective with Chris Waterman and Guy McKenna ensuring the Bulldogs' misery was complete."[2]
