A strong start and a big third term set up a solid 37-point home victory for West Coast over the struggling Lions. Brett Heady continued his strong form with 25 possessions and four goals and fellow Subiaco product Dean Kemp amassed 35 disposals.

From the papers[]
Canberra Times[]
"West Coast exploded into action from the opening bounce, producing four goals in the first 14 minutes to leave the Lions looking lost.
Ruck-rover Chris Lewis and midfielder Steve Malaxos provided great drive for the Eagles from the centre and Peter Sumich was converting opportunities into goals at full-forward.
These performances gave the Eagles a 17 point advantage at the first change, but after the break the Lions came into the game.
Rover Matthew Dundas was receiving the ball from John Ironmonger's winning tap-outs and Darren Kappler and Duane Rowe provided strong drive from defence into attack."[1]
