West Coast were brave against league leaders Collingwood but were still unable to snap a losing streak that stretched to 10 games, a club record. As it had done all season, injury struck again with the Eagles losing Connor West (knee), Elijah Hewett (concussion) and Shannon Hurn (hamstring) all by the time the second term started, but despite being down to just two fit players on the bench, West Coast matched the Magpies around the ground and remained within striking distance until late in the third term, when they ran out of gas. In his 150th game, Dom Sheed matched his career high with 43 touches, while Tim Kelly had 29 disposals to go with nine clearances.

Quarter by quarter[]
West Coast were forced into a late change after Tom Barrass suffered a hip injury at captain's run, replaced by Elijah Hewett. Greg Clark and Oleg Markov started as the subs. The match was played in fine sunny conditions.
From the coach[]
"For three quarters we were really proud. We played with spirit, we just got knocked around again with availability pre-game with Barrass and then obviously during the game we lost three in the first quarter which I just haven't seen it happen let alone twice and both games I think the Fremantle game and the one we played today we did everything we possibly could to stay competitive to the point where we were in the game. I think Gaffy might have missed a shot to put us within eight points maybe and then they are top of the ladder, we are bottom and they're a very professional side and stuck to their system and in the end they're always a good finishing side as well. So, the last quarter we just couldn't maintain what we were doing for the first three. But we'll take a lot of positives out of that.
"...Well, he's (Williams) really grown. I mean, last year, he played a number of games through necessity with the Jamieson and this year he has played on his own a little bit and tonight he had Jammo to support but we've seen growth, just like we are with a lot of younger players. So, whilst Nic's not around, he's been really important for us. So today was another game where he took a step forward. I think he's part of the reason why we're pretty dominant at stages around the clearances.
"We were a bit undermanned down back and Collingwood exposed that to a certain degree with their height and the way they played but we just expect them to stand up and do their best. So, I don't think this sides too dissimilar to the side we played against Hawthorn. So, I think the spirit of which they played in, the energy intent and effort was there and that's what we wanted from a few weeks ago. I think the last two weeks despite the fact it's been blowouts both games I think we can all see there's a little spark there that we can work with."[1]
From the papers[]
The Sunday Times[]
"The big question was, could the Eagles maintain the rage with so few players on the bench against the best team in the league? The answer was no.
Josh Rotham ran into Luke Foley and conceded a free kick for holding the ball which Bobby Hill converted for his third major. Then Brody Mihocek kicked another goal and all of West Coast's hard work counted for nothing on the scoreboard given the margin at the final change was the same as it was at half-time.
Collingwood kicked the last eight goals to run away with it. Footy can be a cruel game."[2]
The Age[]
"Captain Oscar Allen also kicked three either side of the main break. When a rampant Tim Kelly slotted another, the margin was back to 15 points, and Collingwood would have been having flashbacks to last year’s loss to the Eagles in round four last year.
Sheed and Elliot Yeo, especially, were turning the clock back to 2018. So too Kelly, when he burst on to the scene (then with Geelong) in the same year. Yeo’s third quarter was a remarkable reminder of when he ranked among the most powerful midfielders in the game.
But Collingwood steadied, with Hill and Brody Mihocek adding goals in red time to restore a 26-point advantage ahead of the final quarter. Hill played another high-impact game from a handful of possessions, kicking three and applying great pressure on the Eagles.
The Magpies ran all over the flagging Eagles from there. Nick Daicos took over in the middle and kicked a wonderful running goal. Ash Johnson kicked two last-quarter majors and returned to the field despite suffering a corked thigh."[3]

Round 8 (4 June)
West Coast suffered yet another loss, this time to Swan Districts at Bassendean. The Eagles stayed relatively in touch with the home side for three quarters and narrowed the margin to 26 points with the first goal of the final term, but Swans ran away with it with nine unanswered goals to hand the Eagles an 81-point loss.
