From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The Eagles started enterprisingly and led by two goals at quarter-time, but the Blues kept coming. By the half, Carlton seemed to have their measure as they went to the change eight points clear.

To West Coast's credit, it persevered in the third term but Carlton enjoyed a 22-point cushion at the last change.

As Ratten had been so instrumental in the midfield so, too, did he come up with the crucial goal. After a collision with Jakovich, which earned him a free kick and a 50-metre penalty - as well as a report for the Eagles defender - it was out to 28 points."[1]
