From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The Bears' midfield delivery from Craig Lambert (nine kicks, 22 handballs) and Adrian Fletcher (nine kicks, 19 handballs) created numerous opportunities for the Brisbane forwards, and only the good work of the Eagles' defence, led superbly by centre half-back, Glen Jakovich, stopped a Brisbane onslaught.

But it was up forward where West Coast struggled. With Peter Sumich and Brett Heady out of the side, the Eagles went forward with little method.

Alternating spearheads Ashley McIntosh and David Hynes had little influence and McKenna was shifted into attack for the last term in an effort to spark the forward line. The move had an immediate effect with McKenna's goal at the three-minute mark of the final term stretching West Coast's lead to 12 points and creating a cushion that it carried to the siren."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"While the Bears on-ball players were efficient, Brisbane also gained benefits from Chris Scott's tag on Eagle Chris Mainwaring, who was later taken from the ground.

Given the task of replacing Brisbane's regular spearhead Roger Merrett, Peos booted four goals by half-time.

And with youngster Matthew Clarke dominating the ruck duels, Brisbane was able to match the Eagles by half-time.

But when Clarke began to tire in the third term, the Eagles edged ahead with Chris Waterman sparking the comeback from defence and Michael Brennan, in his 150th game, keeping Peos goal-less in the second half."[2]
