From the papers[]

The West Australian[]

"West Coast, through solid midfield work from Chris Waterman on a wing and Dean Kemp in the centre, was able to punish North for every mistake.

The Eagles finished with 40 scoring shots, 24 more than the Roos. But their lopsided scoreline of 14.26 (110) was hampered by 11 rushed behinds - a result of the greasy conditions.

The Eagles led by eight points at quarter time, and just 10 at the main break. Every time they kicked ahead, North would bounce back with a goal to keep in touch, albeit at a distance.

Two goals in as many minutes late in the third term finally gave the Eagles an adequate buffer on which to build. And they did not let the opportunity pass, breaking away to a 41-point lead early in the final quarter to put the game beyond North's grasp."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"In wet and greasy conditions, West Coast's class prevailed with superior ball handling skills in the trying conditions.

Peter Wilson, playing in only his second senior match of the year, gave the Eagles plenty of muscle on the forward line and his superior wet weather skills were a godsend on the night.

Wilson, who is no stranger to the MCG after his time with Melbourne based club Richmond, kicked the Eagles' first goal 34 seconds into the match and had a hand in several other goals.

West Coast's midfielders Chris Mainwaring, Craig Turley and Chris Waterman were the differ ence between the sides and appeared to find space all night."[2]
