From the papers[]
Canberra Times[]
"Hawthorn had opportunities to challenge the Eagles, but regularly failed to match the West Coast onslaught from the first quarter.
Led by full-forward Peter Sumich, the Eagles kicked seven goals in the opening term — a facet that proved too difficult for the Victorian team to overcome.
But the Hawks did fight back, with assistance from James Morrissey, Andrew Collins and to a lesser extent John Platten, kicking five goals in just over even time in the third quarter to eventually take a one-point lead early in the final term.
However, the Eagles steadied in midfield to record the 16.9 (105) to 12.10 (82) success."[1]
