West Coast overcame a shaky start to motor away from Essendon, beginning their run late in the second term and pulling away after half-time to win by 50 points. Mark LeCras kicked four goals from 21 possessions and Andrew Gaff ran tirelessly to amass 33 disposals.

From the coach[]
From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"West Coast looked battered in the first half coming off a trip to Tasmania and a six-day break, with Luke Shuey, Sharrod Wellingham and Sam Butler all proppy at different stages as they came to the bench.
It allowed Essendon to jump quickly from the blocks, with Dyson Heppell waltzing into goal to nail the opener from 40m out on the run."
West Coast hit the scoreboard 10 minutes in thanks to LeCras, but increasingly wasted opportunities up forward.
They kicked four consecutive points, meaning their lead was less than a goal at the first break after Andrew Gaff had put the hosts back in front late in the term.
The decisive break came late in the second quarter.
LeCras and Callum Sinclair added goals in the space of two minutes and when Kennedy kicked his first major on the stroke of half time, the margin had blown out to almost five goals."[2]
The Age[]
"Essendon's intensity was up early too. They led the tackle count and went with their opposition for contested possessions in the first half.
But turnovers cruelled all of their positive effort.
Three goals to West Coast in five minutes before half-time, taking the margin to 29 points at the break, didn't help either.
And unlike the Eagles, when they went forward, they couldn't score. Essendon had the first five entries into their attacking in the first term and returned just 1.0."[3]
Sunday Times[]
"West Coast steadied and resumed control and headed toward an eighth win with two majors from Darling and Naitanui into time-on as it raced to a 31-point lead.
Naitanui threatened to finish among the game’s best few afield with a dominant display against makeshift Bombers ruckman Jake Carlisle in what was a failed experiment with the big all-rounder who is clearly a better key defender or forward.
The Bombers bravely took it up to the home side early with intensity in their tackling and intimidating pressure on the ball-carrier and reliable key defenders Michael Hurley and Cale Hooker more than holding their own in big tasks on key Eagles forward targets Kennedy and Darling.
If it hadn’t been for some clever intercept work from Sharrod Wellingham dropping back as a loose man ahead of the advancing Bombers the Eagles could have copped heavier damage from the opening assaults."[4]
East Perth report[]
