In another tight finish between the two sides, West Coast dominated the first half and led until the final few minutes, but couldn't hold off the fast finishing Swans who kicked 10 goals to 3 in the second half to steal the points. Daniel Kerr was West Coast's best player with 23 possessions (13 of them contested) and 2 goals, and Sam Butler has 17 touches in his first AFL game since the 2006 grand final.

From the papers[]
The West Australian[]
"With Adam Hunter a target in goals and Lynch lurking across half-forward, West Coats moved the ball long and quickly to the scoring zones with, by their standards, a meagre 122 handballs. That's a dramatic change in game plan from the first match this season when they used 214 handballs in the triumph over Brisbane.
Ryan Davis, David Wirrpanda and Brent Staker provided outstanding defensive support deep in attack and only a Swans resurgence led by Adam Goodes and supported by the likes of Nick Malceski, Jude Bolton and Brett Kirk got Sydney over the line.
Defensive lapses allowing Swans winger Paul Bevan to kick two last-quarter goals were fatal for the Eagles."[1]
WAFL[]
There was a general bye in the WAFL as a representative side took on (and thrashed) Queensland in Townsville.
