The Eagles juggernaut kept rolling on, with the undefeated West Coast storming out to a big lead by the final change of a bruising encounter before a late flood of Richmond goals made the margin a little more bearable for Tiger fans. Spearhead Peter Sumich kicked five goals before leaving the ground injured, and fellow tall forward Stevan Jackson tallied 26 possessions and three goals in a strong performance.

From the papers[]
The Sunday Age[]
"In a match that never reached great heights as a spectacle, it was difficult to find consistently good four-quarter players. Although the Tigers had a few who tried hard, the Eagles had too many winners and subsequently controlled the match for the duration.
Perhaps the West Coast's best performer was wingman Peter Matera. He used his explosive pace and superb fitness (that allowed him to run all day) to dominate the wide expanse of Waverley, and he always unloaded with precision.
Closely behind Matera was ruckman Dean Irving. While his opposite number, the ageing David Cloke, was certainly not disgraced, Irving was a touch too mobile, and made his presence felt in all corners and corridors of the the oval.
Sadly, the Eagles lost full-forward Peter Sumich just before half-time when he limped off with a torn hamstring."[1]
