"West Coast's difficulty in scoring saw coach Michael Malthouse take Sumich from the ground near the end of the term and put Steven Jackson, Langdon and Murray Rance up front, hoping goals might result.
The standard of play at this point hardly reflected the teams' positions on the ladder.
The strong wind blowing across the ground favoured the Bombers' attack methods more — long kicks to tall forwards who could hold their ground. At the other end, the Eagles' forwards, more agile and willowy, were bustled on the ball or easily spoiled from behind."[1]
