From the papers[]

"The Eagles led by 18 points nearing time on in the third term but then conceded four unanswered goals. They took the lead again but couldn't stop Collingwood's classy onballers from setting up a win.

The Magpies' victory was impressive considering they lost key defenders Nathan Brown and Jack Frost to injury and played with fewer rotations for a large portion of the match."

Sydney Morning-Herald[]

"Behind for most of the match and with a bench of two from halftime, the Magpies looked likely to be surprise losers.

Matt Priddis led a Herculean West Coast effort, who led as late as the 12-minute mark of the final term.

The Eagles had Collingwood's number on the stats sheet - more inside 50s, disposals and marks - and held sway for long periods without putting them to bed.

But with the match on the line, Collingwood found a way to win."

Herald-Sun[]

"In a high-quality contest reminiscent of memorable finals played between the teams at the same ground in 2011 and 2012, it again followed the same gut-wrenching script as the Magpies surged late to get home by eight points, 17.7 (109) to 15.11 (101).

With the free kicks running West Coast’s way for much of the evening, it was ironically a controversial 50m penalty paid to Collingwood ruckman Brodie Grundy late in the final quarter that eventually broke the Eagles.

There was more irony when a horribly out-of-sorts Travis Cloke put the final nail in the coffin with his only goal of the day."

East Perth report[]

For the second week in a row there was no East Perth game, this time due to a general bye as a WAFL representative team played the best of the NEAFL. Ex-Eagle Ashton Hams was best on ground in WA's win.

Injury list[]

In the lead-up to the match the following players were listed as injured:

Player Injury Expected duration
Waters Shoulder Season (on LTI 17/4/14, replaced on list by Sinclair)
Wilson Thumb 4-5 weeks
LeCras Suspension 1 week
Powell Shoulder Unknown (rookies not officially listed)
