From the papers[]

The Sunday Age[]

"Although its highly vaunted goal-to-goal line was beaten, Hawthorn still saw enough of the football to stay in the contest for three quarters before a final term fade-out.

It was seven minutes of Fraser Gehrig brilliance in the first quarter that created a gulf the Hawks were, ultimately, unable to cross. The enigmatic utility returned from being dragged to kick three vital goals that stemmed the Hawks' flying start and gave the Eagles a narrow lead at quarter-time.

He ended the game matching full-forward Scott Cummmings' five goal haul and, with Ashley McIntosh, Glen Jakovich and Daniel Metropolis on top in defence, the Hawks were unable to kick a winning score."[1]
