From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Maybe it was Craig Sholl's towering mark over Guy McKenna that provided the inspiration, but the scoreboard soon reflected the Roos' dominance, North booting four goals in eight minutes, Anthony Stevens and Peter Bell increasingly busy little men, and the undermanned Eagles forced to throw fill-in forward Glen Jakovich back on to Roberts.

It wasn't the only move the hapless West Coast, which had up to five players with flu, made to stem the tide. Turnbull was dragged. Ashley McIntosh took Jakovich's spot up forward. And 18-year-old Josh Wooden came off the bench to provide the Eagles with the spark that had been sorely missing.

For a while it worked. Paul Symmons kicked West Coast's first goal for almost a full quarter, then the Eagles booted three of the next four. Peter Matera, busy and attacking off half-back, ran down his opponent Scott, and West Coast's lift was tangible, the margin back to two goals at half-time.

But what was a slowing in the second quarter became a crawl in the third, with West Coast capable of restricting North, but without sufficient scoring capabilities of its own."[1]
