From the papers[]

The Age[]

"Mark Ricciuto pole-axed Dean Kemp with a fair bump, forcing him off on a stretcher. Peter Matera came out limping from a skirmish and Andrew Jarman got Chris Mainwaring high. The Eagles seemed to be bruising.

Yet, for all their woes, they were able to steady and went into the half-time break with an 11-point lead, thanks to a goal after the siren from Daniel Metropolis.

What happened from then on, Shaw had difficulty explaining.

His players were embarrassed by the sheer brilliance and fantastic team play from the Eagles. It was premiership-style football.

Then the embarrassment turned into humiliation. So feeble was Adelaide that defender Fraser Gehrig drifted from the back line with four bounces and hit the post, and fellow backmen Matera and Ashley McIntosh also strolled unharmed without a contest and goaled."[1]
