From the papers[]

The Age[]

"The Eagles were forced to rearrange their forward line late in the second term when they lost key forwards Peter Sumich and Brett Heady with hamstring strains. Sumich, in his first game back after injuring a hamstring in round six, limped from the field clutching his right leg midway through the term, a minute after Heady departed.

Malthouse was forced to move Ashley McIntosh to full-forward in their absence and he responded with two telling goals.

For Sydney, full-forward Simon Minton-Conell was its best player in attack, finishing with three goals - but four bad misses early in the match cost his side dearly.

At centre half-forward, Dermott Brereton struggled against Glen Jakovich and spent much of the first half on the bench after giving away two 50-metre penalties. He was dragged for the first time four minutes into the match.

Sydney ruckman Gavin Rose dominated the ruck duels against the three- pronged Eagles contingent of Ryan Turnbull, Jason Ball and David Hynes."[1]
