From the papers[]

The Age[]

"In a scintillating five-minute burst, Sydney rattled on five goals, two from the creative Mark Bayes and one each from Warren McKenzie, Dale Lewis and then Capper, to storm within a hint of causing the upset of the season.

But goals from Brett Heady and Chris Waterman in the time-on phase steadied the home side and sent the West Coast to a two-point lead at three-quarter time.

Sydney reverted to physical aggression for 12 goalless minutes at the start of the pressure-packed final term, before the Eagles turned on their true class and team spirit.

Spurred by 34,000 parochial fans, the Eagles slammed on six successive goals from six players in 15 minutes to run away to the biggest margin of the day, when it mattered most."[1]

Canberra Times[]

"A half-time speech from [coach Col] Kinnear inspired Sydney in the second term and the Swans erased the 22-point deficit at the main break and controlled the game when Warwick Capper kicked his only goal for the match at the 10-minute mark of the third term. But the Eagles went on to their ninth successive victory.

West Coast ruckman Dean irving and midfielder Dean Kemp were crucial elements in the club's early supremacy and fightback.

Eagles defender Guy McKenna provided drive for West Coast with brilliant disposal and Karl Langdon's aggression near the goalposts helped the team counter the Swans attack."[2]
