(279th Eagles player)
Dunsborough product Reuben Ginbey was West Coast's first pick in the 2022 national draft.
West Coast career[]
A late bloomer, Ginbey shot into first-round calculations after a shift from defence into the midfield during his draft year saw him named Western Australia's best player at the national championships. Having split their top-two pick into two later picks, West Coast went local, taking Ginbey and his State teammate Elijah Hewett. On being drafted, Ginbey was described as a strong and powerful onballer with elite athletic ability.
Ginbey was a rare shining light in a horror 2023 season for West Coast, showing a lot of promise while rotating between midfield and half-back. He played the first 17 games, earning a Rising Star nomination in the round 3 Derby, before succumbing to a hamstring injury that required surgery. He remained a regular in 2024 but struggled for impact before a shift into the backline under ncaretaker coach Jarrad Schofield gave him a new lease on life.
