West Coast fell short in the first final to be played outside of Melbourne, giving up 18 goals to the Hawks to lose by 23 points. Star midfielders Craig Turley (26 possessions and a goal) and Peter Matera (22 and a goal) tried unsuccessfully to spark their side.

From the papers[]
Canberra Times[]
"Ruckman Stephen Lawrence, arguably the Hawks' leading contributor this season, exposed the Eagles' deficiencies in the following division yesterday and established Hawthorn's success with his work in the first half.
This time, however, Lawrence had the support of midfielders Ben Allan and Darrin Pritchard, who combined to give the Hawks continual drive into the forward line.
The Eagles, whose centre line carried the team to this year's minor premiership, were down noticeably in standard, only wingman Peter Matera providing the Hawks with a contest.
Matera's performance should have motivated his team-mates with his willingness to throw his body into packs and his outstanding pace, but despite having rover John Platten tagged out of the battle by West Coast's Don Pyke, Allan, Pritchard and Paul Hudson kept the Hawks moving forward."
The Age (29 April 2015)[]
"The future AFL Hall of Famer and dual-premiership centre half-back took a mark just before halftime at Subiaco and spied fullback Andrew Lockyer running off champion Hawks forward Jason Dunstall.
Lockyer had a ton of space to run into if Jakovich could get the ball to him quickly, so rather than go back and settle over his kick - as demanded by team rules - the youngster tried to kick it around his body.
He slipped and succeeded only in shinning the ball to Hawthorn onballer Ben Allan who kicked a goal to put the Hawks 11 points up at the break.
"When I look back now, I really should have gone into the changerooms last but I was only a kid who didn't know any better so I went in first," Jakovich said.
"Mick was waiting for me. He grabbed me by the jumper and had me up against the board in front of everyone. It was an intense moment.
"He told me in no uncertain terms that if I didn't play his way I wasn't going to play at all. I sat on the bench for the remainder of the game.""
