West Coast's Cinderella story came to an end at the hands of a ruthlessly efficient Geelong. The inexperienced Eagles gave up the first four goals of the game and were never in the contest, the margin getting out as far as 62 points before a handful of goals in the final term added a modicum of respectability to the scoreboard. Beau Waters ran free in the backline to pick up 38 possessions and Nic Naitanui kicked two goals from 18 possessions, but a number of West Coast veterans had shockers, particularly Andrew Embley and the usually reliable Dean Cox.

From the papers[]
PerthNow[]
"With prime marking targets Josh Kennedy and Quinten Lynch held to just three marks between them for the first half, goals were hard to come by and Geelong overcame its struggles in front of the sticks to kick three of the last four goals running into the major break to extend its lead to a menacing 25 points.
The Cats' march to the Grand Final became unstoppable in the third term as Steve Johnson kicked his first to signal the opening of the floodgates, but just minutes later the mercurial forward would come from the ground in dramatic circumstances after injuring his knee.
Podsiadly worked his way into the contest and added his second and third goals to extend the margin, and the season had already slipped away from West Coast by the time Kennedy added his second with a set shot in time on of the third stanza."[2]
