From the papers[]
The Sunday Age[]
"The Eagles were unable to get their game going until well in the second quarter, but by then the margin was seven goals and each time they looked like rallying the Bombers were able to produce an answering goal.
A perfect example of this was at the 19-minute mark of the second quarter when Karl Langdon brilliantly stole the ball from one opponent, evaded another and kicked a 50-metre team-lifting goal while on the run.
But the subsequent centre bounce saw the ball spill to Anderson who kicked a long, bouncing goal to snuff out any raised spirits from the Eagles.
After half-time the game fell away dramatically in standard and was really not worthy of a final. The Eagles' half-time deficit of 36 points suddenly appeared worse after Langdon was knocked out one minute into the third quarter when he collided with Terry Daniher."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"The Eagles lacked tall timber in defence and centre-half back Phil Scott was completely outplayed by Madden in the first two quarters, while Bombers' captain, Tim Watson, and wingman Greg Anderson were controlling the mid-field.
The Eagles' attack was stagnant in the first half. Essendon defender Mark Thompson was blanketing Chris Lewis, and Chris Waterman, who kicked six goals against Melbourne last week, was well tagged by finals debutant Chris Daniher.
To make matters worse the Eagles' productive forward, Karl Langdon, was knocked out in the opening minute of the third quarter after colliding with Terry Daniher."[2]
