St Kilda (VFL) 1983-1985
Claremont (WAFL) 1987-1989
East Perth (WAFL) 1990-1992
A versatile key-position player, Peter Melesso represented South Melbourne and St Kilda before heading west.
South Melbourne and St Kilda career[]
Peter Melesso played 1 game for South Melbourne in their last year before becoming the Sydney Swans, and then played 7 games for St Kilda. After being cut loose by the Saints, he moved West and joined Claremont, before being given a third chance at VFL football by West Coast in the late, late stages of the 1988 draft.
West Coast career[]
Melesso played 2 senior games in the horror 1989 season and then four straight games in the second half of the 1990 season before being suspended for stepping on the face of Melbourne’s Earl Spalding.
That was his final appearance for the Eagles, as shortly afterwards Melesso was unfortunately diagnosed with lymphatic cancer which curtailed his AFL career, although he did fight back to play one more WAFL game.
Post-VFL/AFL career[]
In 2005 Melesso appeared in the news again, called as a witness in the trial of the Beaconsfield Hotel bouncer accused of the manslaughter of former Test cricketer David Hookes.[1]
