The Perth Football Club was founded in 1899 and joined the West Australian Football League that year. The club has won seven premierships, the most recent of which came in 1977, but has struggled on-field for much of the past few decades, failing to qualify for finals since 1997. Known as the "Demons", the club played its home games at the WACA until 1959 when it shifted to Lathlain Park, in its recruitment zone.

The club's city "zone" includes the suburbs in Perth's south-eastern corridor such as Lathlain, Rivervale, Belmont, Cannington and Thornlie, while its country zone includes Northam, York, Cunderdin, Jurien Bay, Cervantes and Dongara.

Eagles players to have been recruited from Perth include long-time captain Darren Glass, fellow 2006 premiership player Steve Armstrong (via Melbourne) and inaugural squad member Rob Wiley.
