(264th Eagles player)
Former Richmond midfielder Patrick Naish was added to West Coast's rookie list for 2022 after a whirlwind audition.
Richmond career[]
The son of Richmond and Port Adelaide forward Chris Naish, Patrick was drafted in 2017 (four picks ahead of Northern Knights teammate Jack Petruccelle) as a father-son selection. He spent four years on the Tigers' list but struggled to break into a strong midfield unit, playing just nine games in four seasons, and was delisted at the end of 2021.
West Coast career[]
Naish initially signed with SANFL side Norwood for 2022 but spent most of the summer with St Kilda, auditioning for a supplementary rookie spot. When that didn't eventuate, West Coast pounced, racing him over as soon as the state border was relaxed and throwing him into the side for a pre-season clash against Fremantle just days after he landed. After impressing in limited minutes in that match, Naish was signed as a supplementary rookie on the deadline, along with Tom Joyce and Luke Strnadica.
Naish was a bright spark in the early part of the club's dismal 2022 season, and after 10 rounds was the only Eagle to have played every game. However, he fell out of favour in the second half of the year, and was delisted at the end of the season having played 11 games.
Post-AFL career[]
After first announcing that he would join VFL side Box Hill for 2023, Naish instead elected to play amateurs in Melbourne, playing in Old Ivanhoe's Premier C flag.[1]
