West Coast battled extreme weather as well as Essendon at Lathlain Park, coming out eight-point losers but remaining unscathed as both sides kicked off their 2020 pre-season. Essendon got off to a fast start and were able to hold off every Eagles challenge, as persistent rain throughout was punctuated by a lightning storm that forced a 15-minute break in play during the second term. Josh Kennedy enjoyed a rare pre-season appearance with six goals and Tim Kelly had 27 possessions and a goal in his first official match in West Coast colours.
