Sth Adelaide (SANFL) 2019-2020
Moonta (Yorke Pen. FL) 2021
An exciting midfielder with a penetrating kick and great evasive skills, Malcolm Karpany put his hand up for the draft with a best-on-ground effort in Woodville-West Torrens' victorious colts grand final.
West Coast career[]
Hailing from Moonta, on South Australia's Yorke Peninsula, Karpany was drafted with West Coast's second-round pick in the 2013 national draft.
Karpany spent his rookie season bouncing between the seniors and reserves at East Perth before succumbing to a shoulder injury late in the year. Given plenty of opportunities in the NAB challenge in his second season, Karpany hit a bump early in the season when he returned to South Australia for a funeral and had an extended stay. After showing good form with East Perth late in the year the club made a show of faith by giving him a new two-year deal.
That decision looked to be a mistake when Karpany spent an extended period in East Perth's reserves early in the 2016 season, but he was able to force his way back into the senior side and found some strong form in the back half of the year, eventually making his maiden AFL appearance as a late replacement for an ill Elliot Yeo.
Karpany built on that in 2017, finding his way into the senior side mid-season and adding another six games, including an eye-catching three goal game against the Bulldogs. He received a new one-year playing deal late in the year and was in the mix for selection during the finals series. Unfortunately, he failed to push his name forward for further AFL duties in 2018, his cause not helped by a couple of unusual injuries to his iliotibial band (in the knee) and ribs. He was delisted at the end of the year, finishing with just seven senior appearances in five years at the club.
Post-AFL career[]
Karpany signed with SANFL side South Adelaide for the 2019 season,[1] and played 22 matches for the Panthers over two seasons. He left the club at the end of 2020 to return to his hometown of Moonta.[2]
