Victorian midfielder Lucia "Lu" Painter was West Coast's first pick in the 2024 draft.
West Coast career[]
Originally from Bendigo, Painter rebounded from a serious ankle injury in 2023 to have a stellar 2024, winning All-Australian selection and finished runner-up in the Coates Talent League Best and Fairest (behind eventual top pick Ash Centra). In the first fully national draft, West Coast selected her in the top 10. On being drafted, she was described as a powerful midfielder with an elite penetrating kick and high football IQ.[1]
