Dual premiership-winning Richmond utility Liam Baker joined West Coast in 2024.
Richmond career[]
Originally from Pingaring, near Lake Grace, Baker played colts for West Perth and represented Western Australia at the 2016 under-18 championships but was overlooked in the draft. He switched to Subiaco for 2017, playing 13 senior games before being selected by Richmond in the rookie draft.
Baker made his debut late in 2018 and played 128 games for Richmond over seven seasons, including the 2019 and 2020 premierships. He finished runner-up in the Tigers' best and fairest in 2021 and finished in the top six for five years running between 2020 and 2024. He was also named the winner of the Robert Rose Award as the league's most courageous player in 2022.
West Coast career[]
At the end of the 2024 season, Baker requested a trade to West Coast to return home and join his former midfield coach Andrew McQualter. He was traded as part of a controversial move, with the Eagles downgrading from a prized top-three draft pick to obtain Baker and Matthew Owies.
