A big-bodied inside midfielder from Victoria, Koby Stevens spent three years on West Coast's list before seeking a trade for more opportunities.
West Coast career[]
Highly-rated as a junior, Stevens slipped down the draft due to a battle with osteitis pubis and West Coast grabbed him with their final selection. He forced his way into the senior side mid-way through his rookie year after some strong performances with East Fremantle and ended up playing five games for the year (all losses).
The introduction of the substitute rule for the 2011 season did not work in Stevens' favour. He started in the green vest in his only two senior appearances that year, and struggled to have any impact on the games after being activated very late in proceedings. 2012 was a similar story with Stevens starting as the sub in three of his four senior games, the only exception being a win over GWS.
Despite consistent good form with East Fremantle, Stevens could not find any opportunities at AFL level. Frustrated, at the end of 2012 he announced he would seek a trade to a Victorian club, eventually nominating the Bulldogs.
Western Bulldogs and St Kilda career[]
Given the opportunities not afforded to him at West Coast, Stevens thrived at the Dogs, kicking 23 goals from 39 games in his first two seasons. He was something of a fringe player at the Bulldogs the next two seasons, managing just 12 games in each season. After missing selection in the side's historic premiership win in 2016, he sought a trade to St Kilda.
Stevens played 15 games in his first season at the Saints but just two in his second as he battled concussion symptoms, which ultimately forced him into a premature retirement.[1] He finished his AFL career on 91 games, 63 of them with the Bulldogs and just 11 with West Coast.
