Marquee midfielder Kellie Gibson was signed from Fremantle ahead of the Eagles' entry into the AFLW competition.
Adelaide and Fremantle career[]
A multi-sport star in athletics and rugby, Gibson was a marquee signing for the Adelaide Crows ahead of the inaugural AFLW season. She played in the Crows' premiership before moving home to join Fremantle, playing for the Dockers for two seasons.[1]
West Coast career[]
Gibson joined her third AFLW club, signing with West Coast in April 2019. She played every game in the club's first two seasons, alternating between the forward line and midfield, but didn't manage to hit the scoreboard in that time. Gibson finally kicked her first West Coast goal in the 2022 season which opened the floodgates, with her four goals in 2022 putting her second behind new arrival Aimee Schmidt. She kicked the club's first goal of the next season but unfortunately injured her knee shortly thereafter, missing the remainder of the season.
Gibson was deployed as a permanent forward on her return in 2023 and the move proved a masterstroke, as she set a new club record with 12 goals for the year. Slightly quieter in 2024, she still led the goalscoring with eight goals from her 10 games.
