(174th Eagles player)
Williamstown (VFL) 2012-2013
A defensive midfielder from East Fremantle, Jamie McNamara was West Coast’s first pick in the 2007 rookie draft.
West Coast career[]
After showing some good form with the Sharks, McNamara was elevated off the rookie list to make his debut late in the 2007 season against the Saints. Dropped after that one match, he earned a surprise late call-up for the semi-final against Collingwood and acquitted himself well with 16 disposals and 3 tackles.
Promoted to the senior list for 2008, McNamara was a regular in the senior side in the latter part of the season and played 11 games all up for the year. His best game of the season (and probably his career) came against Brisbane, when he picked up 21 possessions and a goal.
His 2009 was a little disappointing. After an unremarkable five-game stint mid-season, his only other appearance at senior level was in the final-round win over Richmond in David Wirrpanda and Chad Fletcher's send-off game. It turned out to be McNamara's last game too, the hard-nosed midfielder somewhat surprisingly delisted over the off-season.
Post-AFL career[]
McNamara played on with East Freo in 2010 and 2011, finishing runner-up in the best and fairest in both seasons. He then crossed to Victoria to line up for Williamstown in the VFL, in an attempt to get noticed by AFL scouts and get another shot at the big league.[1] After two years with the Seagulls he returned to East Fremantle for 2014, and was appointed the Sharks' captain in 2016.[2] McNamara retired during the 2018 season after 145 games with Easts.[3]
