(304th Eagles player)
South Australian midfielder/forward Jacob Newton was picked up by West Coast in the 2025 mid-season draft.
West Coast career[]
Originally from Elliston on the Eyre Peninsula, Newton represented South Australia in the underage championships in 2024 but was overlooked at draft time, his cause not helped by a foot injury that kept him out of testing. He returned to Norwood and played senior football for the Redlegs before being a surprise mid-season pick by West Coast, who had opened up an extra list spot the day prior to the draft when Jake Waterman required shoulder surgery. On being drafted, Newton was described as a dynamic player with power and speed and a thirst for the contest.[1]
Despite a stop-start run in the WAFL due to illness and then a fractured wrist, Newton was called up to debut in the final fortnight of the season and acquitted himself well.
