A country Victorian boy, Heath Younie spent two years on West Coast's rookie list without playing a senior game, before going on to have a successful career in South Australia.

West Coast career[]

A versatile small from Wodonga, Younie was drafted late in the 1998 rookie draft and spent the 1998 season with West Perth in the WAFL. He shifted to Claremont under the host club arrangement in 1999, leading the Tigers' goalkicking with 43 majors, but was delisted after failing to win senior selection.

Post-AFL career[]

On being delisted Younie returned to Wodonga where he spent a season with the Murray Kangaroos (North Melbourne's reserves side) in the VFL, before shifting to North Adelaide in the SANFL. Younie spent ten years with the Roosters, winning their best and fairest twice, and on retirement took on the role as coach of the club's under-18s.

In 2013 he was appointed the inaugural coach of Adelaide's reserves side in the SANFL.[1] He stepped back from coaching duties in 2017 to concentrate on his role as the Crows' development manager.[2] Younie joined North Melbourne as an assistant coach in 2021.[3]
