South Australian ruckman Harry Barnett was West Coast's third pick in the 2022 national draft.
West Coast career[]
A West Adelaide junior, Barnett was the All-Australian under-18 ruck and played senior SANFL football for the Bloods before being drafted by West Coast. On being drafted, he was described as athletic and mobile with the ability to take a contested mark.[1]
Barnett spent his first season developing at WAFL level. His AFL debut, and only senior game for the season, came as a late-activated substitute against St Kilda, with coach Adam Simpson admitting at the time that Barnett was unready for AFL duties but was the last player available at the peak of the club's 2023 injury crisis. He made a surprise senior appearance early in the following season but spent most of the year in the WAFL, where he struggled as a ruckman before moving to defence late in the year.
