A product of the Clontarf Football Academy, Gerrick Weedon was a silky-skilled half-forward who played one game for West Coast.
West Coast career[]
Having grown up in Broome and Tom Price, Weedon attended Clontarf Aboriginal College and played colts footy at Claremont. He was picked up by West Coast in the second round of the 2009 draft and given the number 44 worn by his football idol, David Wirrpanda.
After spending most of 2010 in Claremont's reserves, Weedon had a strong start to the 2011 season and was given a callup against Essendon in round 7. Forced to sit on the bench in the green vest for the first three quarters, he eventually made his way onto the ground for his debut but was barely sighted, getting just three touches. Weedon was sent back to Claremont where he continued his good form and played in the Tigers' 2011 premiership side.
Unfortunately his form in 2012 was well down on the previous season, even being dropped to the Tigers' reserves for a week. He did play in another WAFL premiership, but failed to press for AFL selection and was delisted at the end of the year.
Post-AFL career[]
Weedon had a stint at Northern Territory side Southern District and with Derby in the Kimberley,[1] before returning to Claremont in 2016.[2]
