(16th Eagles player)
Another football journeyman, Geoff Miles joined West Coast's foundation squad after the former Magpie crossed from Victoria to join Claremont in the mid 1980s.
Collingwood career[]
A hard-running half-back, Geoff “Joffa” Miles played 31 games for Collingwood in the early 1980s before moving west to join Claremont in 1985.
West Coast career[]
He was recruited into West Coast’s inaugural squad and played in the historic first match against Richmond. Miles played 20 games all up in 1987, and then every game for 1988. Proving his versatility, he was swung forward on occasion to good effect, most notably against Footscray when he picked up 4 goals.
He bettered that effort the following year against Carlton, kicking 5 goals. Miles played 18 games during 1989, but could manage only a further 10 in 1990, missing out on the final series.
Miles found himself unable to force his way into the powerful 1991 team, spending the year with Claremont where he played in the Tigers’ premiership. At the end of the season, Geelong showed some interest and he was traded back to Victoria.
Geelong career[]
As a Cat, Miles played just the one season (though he still managed more senior games than Kane Morphett, who West Coast had obtained out of the trade). Highlights of his brief career at Kardinia Park included kicking 17 goals in a 3-week purple patch (including 5 against his ex-Eagles teammates), and being a member of the grand final side that went down to West Coast.
Post-VFL/AFL career[]
Miles played for local Geelong club Barwon Heads in the Bellarine Football League, and served as president of the club. In 1997 he became the inaugural coach of Peel Thunder, but resigned that position nine games into his second season with the club having won just a single game in his time at the helm.
In 2014, his son Teia was drafted by Hawthorn.
