South Fremantle midfielder Fred Rodriguez was picked up by West Coast with the first pick in the 2026 rookie draft.
West Coast career[]
A decorated junior, Rodriguez captained Western Australia in 2025, winning the team's Best and Fairest and earning All-Australian selection, but somehow missed selection in the national draft. West Coast was quick to take advantage, snapping him up when the rookie draft commenced. On being drafted, he was described as a hard-running midfielder and a genuine clearance specialist.[1]
