After a deplorable 2010, West Coast showed how what a difference it makes having your best 22 fit and firing for an extended period, racing to a top-4 finish in one of the biggest single-season turnarounds in the modern era. After losing to Collingwood in the qualifying final, the Eagles took advantage of the double chance to knock former skipper Chris Judd and Carlton out of the finals, in the process winning their first final since the 2006 premiership. The Cinderella story ended the following week at the hands of eventual premiers Geelong.

Veterans Darren Glass, Dean Cox and Andrew Embley led the charge, with Matt Priddis and Shannon Hurn also contributing well. Glass took out the Club Champion award for a second time, pipping Priddis on a countback with Cox just one vote behind the pair. West Coast also got great service from some inexperienced players, with Luke Shuey unlucky not to win the league's Rising Star award after finally getting an injury-free run. The benefits of the previous year's poor showing was also on display in the form of draftees Jack Darling and Andrew Gaff, both of whom contributed greatly in their rookie seasons.
