(50th Eagles player)
Junior star Ella Roberts was West Coast's first pick in the 2022 AFLW draft.
West Coast career[]
A Margaret River local, Roberts accumulated plenty of accolades well before she was eligible for the draft, including the 2021 women's under-18 MVP and a WAFLW flag with Peel in 2020. Widely touted as the best player in the 2022 AFLW draft, the state-based nature of the draft meant that she was available when West Coast had the first pick of the WA pool at pick 14.
Roberts was a bright spark during her first season despite the side continuing to struggle, playing every game and earning a Rising Star nomination. At the end of the season, she was named West Coast's Best First Year Player as well as finishing in the top five of the best and fairest. Roberts continued that trajectory in 2023, kicking off the season with a best-afield performance in a losing effort in the Derby, and finishing runner up to Charlie Thomas in the best and fairest.
