Coming off a toughly-fought Derby, West Coast were undermanned and never in the contest at Football Park. Adelaide shut down the Eagles from the outset and had a broad spread of contributors as West Coast bowed out in the first round of the finals for the second straight year. Captain Ben Cousins kicked three goals from 22 possessions to be his side's best but had little help.
