From the papers[]
The Age[]
"There were several reasons for the Eagle revival, most notably, two extraordinary snaps at goal from Peter Sumich, and one equally as good from Langdon.
Magic moment No. 1 came at four minutes into the second term, when Sumich, trying desperately but unsuccessfully to shake Chris Langford from his hide, was caught tight on the outer boundary line, yet still managed to get his right (Sumich's non-preferred side) foot to the ball and snap a goal.
Five minutes later, and again being hassled by Langford, he managed to get his left foot to the ball to snap an equally impressive goal from an equally difficult angle.
His other two goals for the game came in the second quarter. They were far less spectacular, but no less important."[1]
Canberra Times[]
"Having lost last year's qualifying final and grand final to Hawthorn, the Eagles came from behind to win over Alan Joyce's men.
With the aid of a stiff breeze, the Hawks racked up a 21-point lead by quarter-time before the Eagles cut that to only three by half-time.
The Eagles were well suited by the dry conditions, allowing'midfielders Dean Kemp and Peter Matera to dominate.
Full-forward Peter Sumich kicked four goals in the second term to lead the Eagles' charge and ruckman Paul Harding controlled the tap-outs all day."[2]
