Swan Districts product Elijah Hewett was West Coast's second pick in the 2022 national draft.
West Coast career[]
Talked of as a potential top-ten pick, Hewett played senior WAFL football for Swan Districts during 2022 but slid slightly during the first round and West Coast was quick to pounce, adding him to State teammate Reuben Ginbey. On being drafted, he was described as a strong and powerful midfielder with agility and explosiveness.[1]
Hewett made three early-season appearances, two of the them as the starting substitute, before being sent back to the WAFL where he immediately suffered an ankle injury. He returned later in the year and impressed rotating between the forward line and midfield, earning a Rising Star nomination. Unfortunately his second season was a write-off, with Hewett battling the foot condition sesamoiditis throughout the year before being finally ruled out in July after developing a stress reaction.
