The Sunday Times reported that West Coast was set to use its sole rookie draft pick on delisted Carlton player Kane Lucas. The midfielder played just 42 games for the Blues in five seasons after being drafted at pick 12 in 2009, five spots behind Brad Sheppard. West Coast had reportedly intended to pass on its final pick in the national draft and take two rookies, but coach Adam Simpson said Damien Cavka was too good to pass up. "We had him a lot higher than what he was presented at, so we didn’t hesitate to pick him up. It just means we’ve got one less rookie pick." - Braden Quartermaine, PerthNow: http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/afl/west-coast-eagles-set-to-save-the-career-of-delisted-carlton-midfielder-kane-lucas-with-rookie-lifeline/story-fniv6fhh-1227139418510
