West Coast added Jackson Nelson, Brayden Ainsworth and potential debutants Jarrod Brander and Matthew Allen to an extended squad to face Hawthorn. Elliot Yeo was named after overcoming a knee injury suffered against Richmond, but Luke Shuey remained on the outer with a hamstring strain.

West Coast held off Hawthorn to record a 15 point win, their ninth straight victory. Andrew Gaff worked tirelessly to amass 35 possessions and Josh Kennedy kicked three goals.
Melbourne thrashed Adelaide in Alice Springs and North Melbourne defeated Fremantle.

Willie Rioli escaped suspension, receiving fines for dropping his knees onto Hawk Blake Hardwick and then apologetically tapping umpire Ray Chamberlain on the hip after the resulting 50 metre penalty.

West Coast announced that Chris Masten would miss approximately three weeks after suffering a hamstring strain against Hawthorn, while Malcolm Karpany would be out for up to two months after needing surgery on his iliotibial band, located around the knee. In better news, Shuey was set to return against St Kilda while Liam Ryan was expected to be available after the midseason bye.
