Hutchings was called up to make his debut as Kerr (knee) and Masten (ill) were left out of the traveling party when West Coast flew to Brisbane. Vice-captain Waters signed a new deal to keep him at the club until the end of 2015. West Coast defeated Brisbane in a tight tussle at the Gabba.

Richmond beat Port Adelaide, North Melbourne easily defeated Western Bulldogs, Fremantle overcame Collingwood and Hawthorn beat Sydney.

Adelaide thrashed GWS Giants, Gold Coast had a big win over Melbourne and St Kilda narrowly defeated Carlton.
