Wednesday 9 March[]

West Coast announced three last-minute additions to the 2022 playing squad, with midfielders Patrick Naish and Tom Joyce and ruckman Luke Strnadica signing on as supplementary rookie selections. The trio, who joined earlier signing Hugh Dixon, filled spots created by the retirement of Brad Sheppard and long-term ankle injuries to Tom Cole and Campbell Chesser.

West Coast made five changes to the team to face North Melbourne in the season-ending AFLW clash, with Amber Ward returning from injury and Kellie Gibson, Courtney Rowley, Emily Bennett and Shanae Davison recalled. Dana Hooker (shoulder), Andrea Gilmore (ankle) and Imahra Cameron (health and safety protocols) could not be considered, while Melissa Caulfield was omitted and Courtney Guard retired.

Meanwhile, Jack Darling made a surprise return to training after his standoff over vaccination requirements was finally resolved, but the club's personnel woes continued with Tim Kelly entering health and safety protocols and recent signing Joyce injuring an ankle.

West Coast's horror AFLW season sputtered to an end with a 39-point loss to North Melbourne at Arden Street. The visitors started brightly with two of the first three goals of the match, but didn't score again until the final term by which time the result was well and truly decided. Skipper Emma Swanson played a virtual lone hand with 27 disposals.

West Coast provided a sobering, and lengthy, injury update with Connor West (hamstring) and Joyce joining the list of players unavailable for round 1. Skipper Luke Shuey, taking a cautious approach to a hamstring injury suffered early in the pre-season, was listed as a test.

Key forward Andrea Gilmore announced her retirement in the washup from the recently-concluded AFLW season.
