West Coast named rugby convert Mhicca Carter to make her debut against the Gold Coast Suns. Potential inclusions Chantella Perera, Tarnee Tester, Danika Pisconeri and Kate Orme were named on an extended bench. McKenzie Dowrick and Emily Bonser (both ill) and Melissa Caulfield (managed) were left out.
Friday 13 March[]
The 2020 season was thrown into turmoil with the announcement that fans would be excluded from all matches in the AFL and AFLW, including the men's season opener and the women's upcoming game against Gold Coast, for the foreseeable future, due to the worldwide coronavirus outbreak.
Perera, Tester and Orme joined Carter as inclusions to face the Suns, with defender Talia Radan and Pisconeri named as emergencies.

West Coast lost to Gold Coast at Lathlain Park. In the first Eagles match played under the lockout conditions, West Coast took until the final term to score its first goal, and lost Grace Kelly to a knee injury in the process.

As the ongoing pandemic situation continued to deteriorate, the AFL announced that the season would be reduced to 17 games, with each side playing each other once. With the situation remaining fluid, a fixture was not announced.
Tuesday 10 March[]
West Coast released injury news for the men's and women's team. Kelly's season was over with a medial ligament injury, although she avoided the dreaded ACL, although in better news Caulfield (knee soreness) and late withdrawals Sophie McDonald (ankle) and Maddy Collier (corked hip) were expected to be available for the next game.
For the men's team, Josh Kennedy (elbow), Jack Darling (cheekbone), Jeremy McGovern (Achilles), Liam Duggan (sprained thumb) and Bailey Williams (hamstring tightness) were in the mix to play in Round 1, should it go ahead.
