West Coast named Tim Kelly and Liam Ryan to return from illness against Essendon, in place of an injured Dom Sheed and an omitted Jackson Nelson. Josh Rotham was also recalled to replace Jeremy McGovern (ribs).

Melbourne thumped Brisbane to leapfrog the Lions into top spot.

Friday 24 June[]

West Coast broke through for a win over Essendon, stunning the visitors with a six-goal second term, and slowly pulling ahead in the second half, opening up a 22-point lead late in the game before a couple of Essendon goals closed the margin and had fans nervous in the dying stages. Josh Kennedy wound back the clock with five goals and Willie Rioli kicked three to go with his 19 disposals

Saturday 25 June[]

The reserves also recorded a drought-breaking victory, with 14 AFL-listed players proving too much for South Fremantle. Harry Edwards had a league-record 23 marks and Nic Naitanui kicked two goals and had 26 hitouts in limited minutes.
