Thursday 29 June[]

West Coast made four forced changes, with Sharrod Wellingham, Chris Masten, Jack Redden and Sam Butler recalled to replace Shannon Hurn (concussion), Matt Priddis (soreness), Will Schofield (hip) and Josh Hill (illness). Uncapped midfielder Luke Partington traveled with the team as emergency.

West Coast held off Western Bulldogs to record a narrow 7-point win at Docklands. Andrew Gaff contracted leather poisoning after picking up a career-high 42 possessions and Malcolm Karpany had the best game of his brief career with three goals.

East Perth easily accounted for East Fremantle in wet conditions at Leederville.

Adelaide defeated Carlton, Gold Coast held off North Melbourne, Richmond beat Port Adelaide and GWS Giants and Geelong played out the season's first draw.

Brisbane upset Essendon, Hawthorn defeated Collingwood and St Kilda beat Fremantle.

Tuesday 4 July[]

The weekly injury list included a large number of senior players set to return to the side, including Hurn, Priddis, Schofield, Hill, Josh Kennedy and Nelson, giving selectors a welcome headache. On the negative side, Sam Butler was set to miss up to a month after injuring his hamstring and Wellingham was in doubt for the upcoming clash with the Power with a corked hip.
