Despite concerns about the fitness of Jeremy McGovern, the club resisted the urge to take any tall cover to Melbourne. Jackson Nelson and Matt Rosa joined the traveling party, while Sam Butler was left behind.
Thursday 18 June[]
Butler was the only omission when the side was named, having not come up from the previous game. He was replaced in the side by Rosa.

West Coast beat Richmond at the MCG, overcoming a six-day break to win by 20 points with Andrew Gaff and Nic Naitanui prominent in the win.

East Perth held off East Fremantle to score a 20-point win, with Mark Hutchings and Kane Lucas each getting 30-plus possessions.
Carlton recorded a narrow upset win over Port Adelaide, North Melbourne beat GWS Giants and Western Bulldogs thrashed Brisbane.

Melbourne upset Geelong.
